Club Brugge 3-3 Barcelona – Barca take point in thriller in Belgium

Barcelona’s high defensive line was torn apart time and again by Brugge in a Champions League thriller.

Barca were behind three times and needed VAR to overturn a stoppage-time winner for the hosts to take a point in a brilliantly entertaining game.

Carlos Forbs had too much pace and movement for the Barca defence, scoring twice and creating the opener for Nicolo Tresoldi.

But Barca fought back impressively one each occasion with Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal scoring, before Yamal’s cross was flicked in by Christos Tzolis for an unfortunate own goal.

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was then caught on the ball in his own area as Brugge thought they had a fourth – but it was ruled out for a foul.

The result leaves Barcelona 11th in the standings on seven points from four matches while Club Brugge sit 22nd on four points, with both teams still in the hunt for qualification.

In a thriller at Brugge’s Jan Breydel Stadium, the home side opened the scoring through Tresoldi in the sixth minute, after a quick counter by Forbs, but Barcelona hit right back with Torres finding the net from close range two minutes later.

Brugge regained the lead in the 17th minute with Forbs scoring after another quick counter, but teenager Yamal scored a brilliant individual goal in the 60th minute to level the match again.

Four minutes later Forbs scored from another counter attack, but Tzolis headed the ball into his own net when trying to clear as Barca rescued a point away from home.
