Arsenal v Bayern Munich: Timber gives Gunners lead but Bayern hit back through teenage sensation Karl
It's all square at half-time at the Emirates
Arsenal took an early lead against Bayern Munich before the German club hit back through their teenage prodigy in an enthralling first-half in the Champions League top of the table clash at the Emirates.
Ex-Tottenham striker Harry Kane was back at the home of his former club’s great north London rivals but it was the hosts who dealt the first blow.
On 22 minutes, Jurrien Timber nodded home Bukayo Saka’s corner as Arsenal’s threat from set-pieces once again proved fruitful.
However, the advantage lasted just 10 minutes when a sublime long pass from Joshua Kimmich found the run of former Arsenal player Serge Gnabry whose cushioned volley across the box was blasted home by the highly impressive 17-year-old Lennart Karl.
The goal was the first the hosts have conceded in this season’s competition.
Eberechi Eze had earlier squandered a great chance with Arsenal leading when he attempted to square the ball to Saka when a shot may have been a better option.
Both sides are hoping to maintain their 100% records in the competition. Bayern are unbeaten in all competitions this season, while Arsenal boast a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
