Arsenal add Gabriel Jesus to Champions League squad after Max Dowman forced to withdraw

Arsenal have made a late change to their Champions League squad ahead of Wednesday’s match at Club Brugge.

The adjustment comes after Max Dowman suffered an ankle injury on Saturday while playing for the Under-21s.

The 15-year-old has been removed from the Gunners’ European list with immediate effect, a bitter blow for the club after what had been a promising campaign so far for the youngster.

Gabriel Jesus has been called up to take Dowman’s place, returning to the squad following a lengthy absence from Mikel Arteta’s first team due to an injury of his own.

Dowman is set to join Arsenal’s UEFA B list in January.

However, the England Under-19 international will be ineligible to feature in any UEFA competitions for 60 days, meaning his next appearance cannot come before February 6.

Gabriel Jesus now looks likely to at least make the bench for Arsenal’s clash with the Belgian side. The striker has just returned to training after an 11-month absence due to an ACL injury.

Although Jesus has yet to make his full first-team comeback, he was included on the bench for Arsenal’s Premier League matches against Chelsea and Brentford over the past two weeks.

He has also taken part in behind-closed-doors friendlies against Watford and Manchester United, signaling that he is ready to play.

Arsenal still face injury concerns, with Declan Rice, Leandro Trossard, and William Saliba all listed as doubts. None of the three trained with the squad on Tuesday.
