Bayern president Hoeness rules out €200m Olise Liverpool switch

Bayern Munich will not sell Michael Olise to Liverpool even if the Reds offer €200million, honorary president Uli Hoeness has insisted.

Reports have claimed the Premier League club are willing to smash their transfer record again to sign the France star, who has enjoyed a stunning season for Vincent Kompany’s side.

Liverpool spent £446m last summer, breaking the British transfer record to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak for £125m, and bringing in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £100m and Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for a fee that could rise to £82m.

While Ekitike has thrived, Wirtz has endured an up-and-down season and Isak has missed most of the campaign due to ankle and leg injuries sustained in the act of scoring just his third goal for the club in December.

Liverpool are fifth in the Premier League, with Champions League football next season far from a guarantee, and Hoeness is adamant Bayern are not willing to help them bounce back next term by parting with Olise.

“Liverpool have already spent €500 million this year and are having a very poor season,” Hoeness told reporters at the KI Festival “data:unplugged”.

“We won’t contribute to them playing better next year.

“We play this game for our fans. We have 430,000 members, we have millions of fans worldwide, and it doesn’t help them much if we have €200m in the bank but play worse football every Saturday because of it.”

Why Liverpool want Olise after stunning Bayern season

While Liverpool have laboured in the Premier League, Bayern are set to retain the Bundesliga title and are among the favourites to win the Champions League. Also through to the last four of the DFB-Pokal, Bayern are on course for a treble.

Olise, signed from Crystal Palace in 2024, has been pivotal to their success.

He has 28 goal involvements in the Bundesliga (11 goals, 17 assists), along with eight (three goals, five assists) in the Champions League and a further three (two goals, one assist) in the Pokal.

Able to play as a right-winger and as a number 10, Liverpool may view the 24-year-old as the ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah, who announced he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Salah has 19 goal involvements in all competitions this season, with his influence waning dramatically after he inspired Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2024-25. The Egyptian had 47 goal involvements in the league last season, a record for a 38-game Premier League season.

Olise has already proven himself in the Premier League, registering 29 goal involvements across his final two seasons with Palace before his move to Bayern.

In that sense, the France forward checks all the boxes for Liverpool as a potential Salah successor. With his speed, ability to create for others and his threat cutting onto his left from the right flank, Olise would be a superb signing for the Reds.

Yet, sadly for Liverpool, it seems like a big-money move they are unlikely to be able to pull off.
