Anselmino breaks down in tears after being told he has to leave Dortmund and return to Chelsea
Aaron Anselmino cut an emotional figure, breaking down in tears, after being told his loan deal at Borussia Dortmund had been terminated.
Chelsea last night exercised their option to recall the Argentine from a season-long loan deal at the Bundesliga giants, five months earlier than scheduled.
Defender Anselmino made 10 appearances for Dortmund, who said they “regretted” his early departure.
And the 20-year-old also seemed eager to stay given his tearful farewell to his team-mates.
A Dortmund statement read: “Central defender Aaron Anselmino leaves Borussia Dortmund and immediately moves back to Chelsea. The Premier League club activated a clause on Sunday evening which will prematurely end the defender’s loan which was originally due to run until June 30.
“Borussia Dortmund very much regrets the departure of Aaron and thanks him for his commitment in recent months. BVB wishes the Argentine all the best for his future.”
Anselmino made his final appearance for Dortmund in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Union Berlin, replacing Emre Can in the 69th minute. The win, combined with leaders Bayern Munich’s stunning home defeat to Augsburg, means Niko Kovac’s side now trail the Bavarian club by eight points.
