Bournemouth vs Stoke City match preview
Who will march into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup?
Last month, Bournemouth enjoyed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Swansea in this competition, with Ryan Christie snatching victory in stoppage time in South Wales.
This though is the only victory Andoni Iraola has enjoyed since arriving in the summer, as his team continue to struggle in the Premier League.
On Sunday, despite taking the lead through Dominic Solanke, the Cherries were beaten 3-1 by Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex.
This leaves Bournemouth hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, having drawn three and lost three thus far.
So, even though a League Cup victory can’t tangibly improve their Premier League predicament, a win here is vital as Iraola seeks to raise confidence and morale.
This does seem the most-likely outcome, given that Stoke City themselves aren’t in particularly good form either.
The Potters are without a win in five EFL Championship outings, losing four of them, most-recently beaten 3-1 by Hull City at home on Sunday.
Alex Neil’s side therefore sit 20th in the table, having enjoyed as many League Cup wins as league victories so far, overcoming West Brom 2-1 and Rotherham United 6-1 in previous rounds.
Bournemouth have won five of their last six meetings with Stoke, a ratio that’s only likely to improve here.
Bournemouth team news
With Arsenal visiting in just three days time, Andoni Iraola is likely to rotate his line-up.
Back-up goalkeeper Ionuț Radu as well as David Brooks, Hamed Traorè and Kieffer Moore are all set to come in, as they did at Swansea in the previous round.
Tyler Adams and Alex Scott are both still awaiting their Bournemouth debuts, given that both are injured.
Stoke City team news
Tyrese Campbell went off injured just 13 minutes into Sunday’s defeat to Hull, which is a huge blow, so Sead Hakšabanović, on loan from Celtic, could be their main goal threat.
First-choice goalkeeper Mark Travers is on loan from Bournemouth but, having started the round two drubbing of Rotherham, Jack Bonham could be donning the gloves here.
