Copa America 2024: Group D – preview, offers and predictions

Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay and Costa Rica will battle it out in Group D of Copa America 2024.

Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica and Paraguay close out the final group at Copa America 2024.

Group D is well and truly star studded and there could well be a few upsets on the cards.

Brazil naturally have the tag as favourites, with Colombia sitting second with the bookies.

Paraguay and Costa Rica are not expected to progress but they are more than capable of causing problems.

The Selecao have been poor since the World Cup in Qatar but will be determined to win their 10th crown at Copa America.

Whether they can do so is unknown, but they arrive with the weight of a nation on their shoulders as usual.

Later in this article, we will identify a few good value bets but if you need to open an account, you can find the best promotional offers on the market.

Predictions, Bets, Odds

The odds listed below were provided by bet365 and were correct at the time of publication. However, they are subject to change.

Paraguay to qualify from the group @ 4/1 with bet365

Brazil not to qualify from the group @8/1 with bet365

All eyes are on Brazil in this group and they will be tested.

They could and should win every one of their games, such is their quality, but a single loss will put their place in the knockout stages at risk.

A punt on either Costa Rica or Paraguay to qualify is worth a go.

They’re both 4/1 to advance and if you’re feeling brave, Paraguay are 12/1 to win the group and Costa Rica are 18/1.

Colombia’s tournament is a hard one to predict. They are 11/4 to win the group but the same price not to qualify.

Group Preview

Neymar will be absent for Brazil at Copa America 2024, so they will have to do it without him.

Things got ugly at home after they exited the 2022 World Cup in the quarter-finals, so redemption is on the cards this summer.

Fernando Diniz was given the boot following the Selecao’s abysmal start to 2026 World Cup qualifying which saw the nation lose three times in a row.

Dorival Junior is now at the wheel and he has the biggest and most expensive toys to play with at the tournament.

Vinicius Junior will naturally step into the spotlight, but with the aid of Real Madrid team-mate Rodrygo and 17-year-old Endrick in attack, there are sure to be goals in whatever match they are involved in.

Brazil lost to rivals Argentina in the 2021 final and they will be keen to wash away the painful memories from three years ago.

Colombia were not involved in the 2022 World Cup, but their squad suggests they should have been.

Nestor Lorenzo has not lost a game in charge since taking over two years ago, leading Los Cafeteros on a 19-match unbeaten run.

Some of the wins were not against feeble foes either. Colombia beat Brazil, Spain, Germany and Mexico along the way.

James Rodriguez is still involved for his country and he is set to captain the side at Copa America, while most of the fans’ hopes will be put in Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.

Should they convert their excellent form this summer, they could be in the running to win the tournament for the second time, last doing so in 2001.

Ex-Arsenal winger Joel Campbell will lead Costa Rica into Copa America for the first time since 2016.

They put in a respectable performance against Uruguay in their final friendly before the tournament, drawing 0-0.

Campbell has 132 caps for his country, scoring 27 times, and despite not playing a high level domestically anymore, he remains a beloved name in Costa Rica.

It will be a hard ask for the nation to move on past the group stages, but with a safe pair of hands in net with Keylor Navas, it does increase their odds.

Paraguay are two-time winners of Copa America, but have struggled to challenge in the last 15 years.

They made the final in 2011 but lost to Uruguay. Since then, they have made the semi-finals once and the quarter-finals twice.

However, Paraguay are in terrible form, losing three of their last five World Cup qualifiers.

In five of their last six, they have failed to score, but fans and manager Daniel Garnero will be hoping the inclusion of Premier League stars Miguel Almiron and Julio Enciso will be enough to help them through.
