Olise and Kane send Bayern through to Club World Cup knockout stages
The German champions made it two wins from two with a narrow victory over Boca Juniors.
Michael Olise and Harry Kane’s goals clinched a 2-1 win for Bayern Munich over Boca Juniors on Friday, sealing the German champions’ place in the Club World Cup round of 16 with a game to spare.
Bayern looked in control after Harry Kane put them ahead in the 18th minute with a typically composed finish.
However, despite dominating much of the game and creating several chances, they were pegged back in the 66th minute by a stunning solo effort from Boca’s Miguel Merentiel.
As the match approached its closing stages, Olise stepped up to break the deadlock, firing home in the 84th minute at Hard Rock Stadium to maintain Bayern’s perfect record in Group C.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, we knew we were coming into a hostile environment, hot weather, it was tough,” said Kane.
“It’s a massive tournament. We are playing against the best teams in the world. We just have to compete to our highest level and we should be able to beat most teams.”

The win, however, was overshadowed by an injury to Jamal Musiala. The 22-year-old midfielder, only recently back from a hamstring tear, lasted just 25 minutes before being forced off, replaced by veteran Thomas Müller in the 82nd minute.
Boca Juniors still have a slim path to qualification. They must beat Auckland City convincingly on Tuesday and hope Bayern defeat Benfica to stay in contention.
“We have to find a way (to advance),” Boca coach Miguel Angel Russo said. “A draw would’ve been great but it’s up to us to compete and do our best and I would not be surprised if that happened.”
