Manchester City saw their net breached in the Club World Cup for the first time in a self-inflicted wound.

Manchester City concede for first time in Club World Cup but Kalulu howler gifts them half-time lead

Manchester City became the last of the 32 teams in the Club World Cup to concede a goal, but still went into half-time of their final group game with Juventus with a 2-1 lead.

City had already booked their place in the last 16 with wins over Wydad Casablanca and Al Ain, scoring eight times without seeing their net breached.

Jeremy Doku gave them the lead against Juve in the battle for top spot in Group G, but their tournament clean sheet was ruined in the 11th minute as the Serie A side levelled.

The equaliser came in fortuitous fashion for the Bianconeri, as City goalkeeper Ederson played the ball straight into the path of Teun Koopmeiners, who surged into the box and slotted home.

But that error was followed by another at the other end, Pierre Kalulu gifting City a second goal.

Kalulu inadvertently turned Matheus Nunes’ low cross into his own net to put City back in the driving seat to top the group and, assuming they finish first in Group H, avoid a last-16 clash with Real Madrid.
