Wigan Athletic vs Rotherham United match preview

A Wigan Athletic outfit long condemned to relegation will be hopeful of restoring some pride on Monday, May 8th, when they welcome Rotherham United to the DW Stadium as part of the final round of Championship fixtures.

The Latics, as things stand, sit dead bottom of the table in England’s 2nd tier.

Recent weeks, though, to their credit, have seen Shaun Maloney’s troops stand tall, en route to seven points from an available nine.

Most recently, after clinching successive victories over Stoke City and Millwall, only a last-gasp Yakou Meite equaliser denied Wigan a third win on the spin at Reading.

Nevertheless, Maloney and co. will head into proceedings later today in the knowledge that a positive result could guide them off the bottom of the table.

Securing such a result, though, could well prove a tough task.

This comes with upcoming opponents Rotherham United brimming with confidence, fresh off a fine showing of their own last time out.

After going five games without a win, the Millers, a week ago today, welcomed promotion-chasing Middlesbrough to the New York Stadium.

And, when all was said and done, a solitary Hakeem Odoffin strike early in the 2nd-half proved enough to guide the day’s hosts to the right side of a 1-0 scoreline.

Rotherham, in turn, climbed to 20th in the Championship standings, eyeing a further surge come the close of proceedings on Monday.

We at 101, though, view an eventual sharing of the spoils as the most likely outcome upon the full-time whistle bringing a close to proceedings at the DW later today.
