Match preview

Two sides in search of a return to winning ways are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, December 17th.

The clash in question will see struggling Hull City play host to mid-table Sunderland.

First, let’s take a look at the recent efforts of the former.

As the club’s loyal supporter-base will be all too aware, Hull currently find themselves in the thick of the battle against relegation from England’s 2nd tier.

This comes in large part owing to a concerning spell of form of late, which has seen the Tigers notch just a solitary win from their last six attempts.

In their final outing prior to the World Cup break, Liam Rosenior’s troops were put to the sword by a Reading outfit in nothing short of freefall down the Championship table.

This, in turn, was followed by a stalemate in the club’s return to action last weekend, albeit, to Hull’s credit, an altogether encouraging one.

This came as a trip to Watford ultimately culminated in the Tigers emerging with a hard-fought point.

Top scorer Oscar Estupinan, meanwhile, is primed to return to the fray this weekend, having sat out the third of a three-game ban at Vicarage Road.

Turning attentions towards Saturday’s visitors, as alluded to above, Sunderland will too head into the upcoming round of action on the lookout for a bounce-back result.

This comes after the Black Cats, on the back of a fine stretch of form, were brought crashing back down to earth last time out.

A meeting with relegation-battling West Bromwich Albion at the Stadium of Light saw goals on the part of Tom Rogic and Daryl Dike lead the rejuvenated Baggies to an eventual 2-1 triumph.

This brought to an end a run of three wins from four for Sunderland, halting the club’s surge up the Championship table.

Nevertheless, Tony Mowbray’s men remain inside the top half of the table, in the knowledge that a return to winning ways this weekend could, remarkably, guide them to within touching distance of the promotion playoff places.

We at 101, though, are backing Hull to prevent as much.

Instead, our recommended bet comes in the form of a sharing of the spoils come the full-time whistle at the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
