Huddersfield Town vs Reading match preview

Two sides set to head into proceedings in altogether contrasting moods are primed to lock horns in a final day Championship clash at the John Smith’s Stadium on Monday, May 8th.

The matchup in question will see Huddersfield Town act as hosts, in a meeting with Reading.

Beginning with the former, Huddersfield, of course, are fresh off a momentous couple of results over the course of the last week.

With their backs to the wall, in the knowledge that their status as a Championship club could otherwise come down to the last day, the Terriers, first, emerged from the Cardiff City Stadium with a precious three points.

And this was followed in turn by an even more impressive showing in midweek, when Danny Ward’s finish just shy of the hour mark proved enough to put promoted Sheffield United to the sword in west Yorkshire.

Huddersfield, as a result, clinched safety, etching the name of boss Neil Warnock indellibly into Terriers folklore in the process.

Not only that, but, in making it back-to-back victories on Thursday, Monday’s hosts also condemned their upcoming opponents to the drop to League One.

Owing to a recent points deduction on the part of the EFL, Reading found themselves sucked into the bottom three, with just weeks of the season remaining.

Such woes, coupled with no wins since all the way back in February, meant that the Royals had long been preparing themselves for what they were no doubt hoping would prove a winner-takes-all final day showdown with Huddersfield.

As much, however, evidently failed to come to fruition, with Noel Hunt’s side now five points off Cardiff City in 21st, and their hosts-in-waiting sitting comfortably in 18th.

We at 101 are therefore backing Huddersfield to add ever further to Reading’s misery later today, courtesy of a third win on the spin.
