Match preview

A Blackburn Rovers outfit desperate for a return to winning ways are set to act as hosts in a Championship clash at Ewood Park on New Year’s Day.

Their upcoming opponents? Relegation-battling Rotherham United.

As fans of the club will will all too aware, Blackburn have slipped into an altogether untimely dip in form over the course of recent weeks.

All told, dating back to the middle of November, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s troops have fallen to defeat in five of their last six outings.

The most recent, meanwhile, came this past Thursday.

A showdown with in-form Middlesbrough at Ewood Park saw the hosts surrender an early advantage courtesy of Ryan Hedges’ opener, en route to a 2-1 loss.

Sunday’s hosts, as a result, have slipped a full 11 points adrift of the automatic promotion places in England’s 2nd tier.

Blackburn, though, will nevertheless likely be confident in their chances of getting firmly back on track next time out.

This comes with their upcoming opponents having too majorly struggled of late.

Rotherham, either side of the World Cup break, have gone five without a win, the most recent of which saw them put to the sword by a direct relegation rival.

This came as a trip to Huddersfield Town culminated in the Millers being put to the sword by two goals to nil.

Matt Taylor’s men, as a result, have been dragged firmly into the relegation scrap, sitting just two points clear of the drop zone as things stand.

And we at 101 do not envision the situation getting all that much better for Rotherham, come the full-time whistle at Ewood Park on Sunday evening.

Instead, we are backing hosts Blackburn to ultimately emerge victorious, courtesy of a one-sided scoreline.
