Partizani Tirana vs BATE Borisov match preview

In a tie that’s tough to call, Partizani Tirana will feel this home leg is must win.

Last year, the Reds won their 17th Kategoria Superiore title, and first in four years, pipping fierce rivals KF Tirana by virtue of head-to-head.

In Europe though, Partizani have won just one of their last nine ties, falling at the first hurdle against Saburtalo Tbilisi 12 months ago.

Nevertheless, Zoran Zekić’s team will believe this tie is winnable.

BATE Borisov meanwhile won 13 consecutive Belorussian titles between 2006 and 2019, featuring in nine UEFA group stages during this period.

Since their most-recent appearance in 2018 however, the Yellow-Blues have lost five of seven ties, including each of the last four, dumped out by Konyaspor 12 months ago.

With that in mind, Partizani might just have the edge, certainly favourites for this first leg at Arena Kombëtare.

The reward for the victors is a place in the Champions League second qualifying round, where they’ll meet Aris Limassol.

The losers drop into the Europa Conference League second qualifying round, with Atlètic Club d’Escaldes awaiting them.
