Match preview for Strasbourg v Paris Saint-Germain

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are likely to rotate their squad for the trip to Strasbourg as they focus on their Champions League semi-final with Arsenal.

PSG took control of the last-four clash on Tuesday, Ousmane Dembele’s fourth-minute goal giving them a 1-0 win at Emirates Stadium. The margin of victory would have been greater had Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos taken clear-cut late chances.

With another domestic title secured and hopes of an unbeaten season ended by the home defeat to Nice that preceded the triumph in London, PSG have precious little to play for in Alsace, making it an ideal opportunity for Luis Enrique to rest players ahead of next Wednesday’s return leg with Arsenal at the Parc des Princes.

That is excellent news for Strasbourg, who are firmly in the mix for Champions League qualification.

Strasbourg are level with Lyon and Nice on 54 points with three games remaining, trailing fourth-placed Monaco by just one point and third-placed Lille by two. The top three qualify directly for the league phase of the Champions League, while the fourth-placed team goes into the third qualifying round.

With their final two games against fourth-bottom Angers and third-bottom Le Havre, a surprise win over a PSG team with a different priority would set Strasbourg up superbly to take maximum points from their final three matches and qualify for Europe’s elite competition for the first time since their run to the quarter-finals in 1979-80.

Team news for Strasbourg v Paris Saint-Germain

Forward Moise Sahi Dion is the only absentee for Strasbourg with an Achilles tendon rupture.

PSG have a full squad to choose from, but Dembele is likely to be rested to protect against a hamstring concern.
