Match Preview for Fenerbahce v Aston Villa

Domenico Tedesco says Aston Villa are a “complete team” and believes it will take more than a passionate home crowd to throw them off their game.

Fenerbahce boss Tedesco, who succeeded Jose Mourinho in the role, is wary of Unai Emery’s men ahead of their Europa League clash in Istanbul tomorrow night – a match the hosts need to win to enhance their chances of finishing in the top eight.

Fener have ridden fanatical support to register wins over Nice and Stuttgart in the league phase so far but their Italy-born boss knows more is required against the Premier League high-flyers.

He said: “I think that we beat Stuttgart and Nice because of emotions, but without structure and possession we have no chance at this level.

“They are a ball-playing team, but they have this unbelievable vertical approach. As soon as they have a free foot, they have two runners.

“They can play deep, press high, and play on counter attacks. They are a complete team, and they have worked with this coach for many years. They are a great club and have a great coach.”

Villa have been particularly effective with their long-range shooting this season, scoring 12 goals from outside the box in the league.

“They have good quality to shoot from distance,” added Tedesco. “I remember a goal from [Matty] Cash, who is always in this position, and [Morgan] Rogers – he has a lot of quality. Youri Tielemans too.

“When you have these players, you can score from different situations. It is not just this; they can play flat and long. It is very nice to watch them because they can play in different varieties. It is not just one thing.”

Third-placed Villa are guaranteed a place in the playoffs at least but will hope to get the win they require to secure a top-eight finish.

To do so they will have to perform better than they did in Sunday’s drab 1-0 defeat at home to Everton.
