Match Preview
DR Congo will look to seal their place in the Africa Cup of Nations last 16 when they face Botswana in their final Group D encounter.
Having followed up their win over Benin with a draw with Senegal, DR Congo will clinch a spot in the knockouts if they better Benin’s result against the Lions of Teranga.
Against a Botswana side already eliminated having lost both their opening games, DR Congo will be confident of achieving that feat.
Yet the Leopards also have a chance of sealing top spot in the group. DR Congo need to better Senegal’s result against Benin for that to happen.
While their fate is not entirely in their hands, coach Sebastien Desabre knows it will take complete concentration for DR Congo to have a shot of finishing the group stage top of the pile.
“We’re making progress, that’s for sure,” Desabre said after the draw with Senegal.
“We’ve played against two very strong African teams recently, and these kinds of matches help us keep improving in our play and intensity.
“Today, we’ve shown that DR Congo can stand up to the best team in Africa. Now, we must stay focused for the match against Botswana and go for the top spot in the group.”

DR Congo just need to match Benin’s result to progress. The gap in quality between them and Botswana should see them do that with little difficulty.
