2023 has certainly not gone to plan so far for the Netherlands, meaning they’re playing catch-up in Group B.
Back in March, in the first game of Ronald Koeman’s second stint in charge, Oranje were demolished 4-0 by France in Paris, conceding thrice in the opening half an hour.
Three days later, Holland swatted aside Gibraltar at De Kuip, but those are the only points they have on the board thus far, following their involvement in the UEFA Nations League Finals over the summer.
Well, that tournament didn’t go very well either, with the hosts defeated by Croatia in the semi-finals in Rotterdam, before also losing the third-place play-off, for what it’s worth, against Italy in Enschede.
So, yes they do have games in hand, but Netherlands are currently fourth in this group, with Koeman under massive pressure to deliver a victory in Eindhoven.
Greece meantime are determined to qualify for a first tournament since Brazil 2014, currently sat second in this section, fighting to stay there.
Gus Poyet’s team kicked off with back-to-back victories, overcoming Gibraltar 3-0 at Estádio Algarve and then Republic of Ireland 2-1 in Athens, with Georgios Masouras on target in both.
Then, last time out, the Sky Blue and Whites were competitive for long periods, but ultimately defeated 1-0 by France at Stade de France.
Following their Nations League promotion, Greece are guaranteed a play-off place, but a shock victory here would be a gigantic step towards automatic qualification.

Oranje are without Sven Botman, Jurriën Timber, Tyrell Malacia and Memphis due to injury.
In the absence of the latter, Cody Gakpo is likely to lead the line, possibly with Xavi Simons, back in Eindhoven, in-behind.
The three goalkeepers in the squad have just nine caps between them, including Brentford’s Mark Flekken and Bart Verbruggen of Brighton, the latter dreaming of a senior international debut.

Greece, in contrast, know who their number one is, with Odysseas Vlachodimos, who’s just joined Nottingham Forest, set to win his 34th cap.
