A fresh insight into the ongoing efforts of the powers that be at German giants Bayern Munich to secure goalkeeping reinforcements has been provided on Sunday afternoon.
The subject of fresh blood between the posts, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines at the Allianz Arena over the course of the summer to date.
This comes with the Bayern hierarchy having been forced into something of a rejig.
With long-time no.1 Manuel Neuer still sidelined owing to a freak injury picked up whilst skiing late last year, Yann Sommer has since stepped in to fill the void.
Sommer, however, is now understood to be on the verge of linking up with Inter Milan, where he will act as the replacement for Manchester United’s Andre Onana.
The Bundesliga champions, in turn, have long been locked in negotiations with Premier League outfit Brentford, over a deal for the highly-regarded David Raya.
Earlier today, however, word was forthcoming that negotiations between the parties had collapsed.
This came as a result of both the formula of Bayern’s offer, and Arsenal, out of the blue, entering themselves in the fray.
Spanish international Raya, for his part, is understood to favour a move to north London over Bavaria.
So, what next for Bayern?
Well, as alluded to above, an update on precisely that was forthcoming a short time ago.
The info comes courtesy of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has hinted that David de Gea, still a free agent on the back of the expiration of his contract at Manchester United, could now be back on the agenda at the Allianz.
The Bayern brass, it is claimed, made contact with De Gea’s camp a week ago, in a bid to gauge his interest in joining the club.
With first-choice target Raya now off the table, attentions could swiftly turn back towards the former Old Trafford standout.
De Gea is also the subject of intense interest by way of the Saudi Pro League, though.
