Chelsea are ready to continue their pursuit of Andre Onana after Inter Milan lost the Champions League final on Saturday, but face competition from Manchester United for the shot-stopper.
Onana impressed for the Nerazzuri in Istanbul even as his side lost 1-0 to Manchester City, with his distribution drawing rave reviews from all corners including opposition boss Pep Guardiola.
Though the Cameroon goalkeeper admitted after the game that while he was happy with the Italian side, he also suggested a move could well happen this summer.
“I’m so, so happy at Inter”, he explained.
“At this professional level you never know what happens.
“I’m available for Inter, they decide and I will accept what they want. I’m happy at Inter”.
Should he move, it is almost certain that it would be to the Premier League. Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add a new no.1 to his ranks this summer before his first game in charge of Chelsea, while Manchester United are also thought to be on the hunt for an alternative to David de Gea.
It is the Blues that are set to test the waters first, however, with the London Evening Standard reporting that they will ‘step up their pursuit’ of Onana in the coming days following the end of Inter Milan’s season.
However, he won’t come cheap, with Inter ready to demand at least £50m for their goalkeeper, though Chelsea have plenty of cards to play which could bring that price down. Chief among those could be an extension to Romelu Lukaku’s loan deal at San Siro, with both the Belgian and the club keen for him to stay.
Inter have also been credited with interest in several Chelsea stars, and a cash plus player deal could be agreed between the two sides. With Chelsea keen to get business done early and Onana wishing his future to be resolved soon, a move could accelerate rapidly.
