Sassuolo chief responds to Armand Lauriente’s Tottenham links

Giovanni Carnevali, CEO at Serie A outfit Sassuolo, has on Thursday spoken out over the ongoing speculation linking Armand Laurienté with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

For those who may have missed it, the name of wide-man Laurienté has taken its place front and centre in the transfer chatter in north London across much of the week to date.

This comes after word was forthcoming that Tottenham were one of a number of clubs to have expressed an interest in the signature of the 24-year-old over the summer.

Speaking to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Laurienté's agent, Roberto Meloni, revealed:

“Bayer Leverkusen liked him as a replacement for Diaby [joined Aston Villa]. Then there was an interest from Tottenham and it’s no mystery that Giuntoli would have liked him if he had stayed at Napoli. In the Premier League, there was an attempt from West Ham, but he wants to reach an important level, preferring a second season at Sassuolo.”

The Frenchman has since gone on to enjoy a fine start to the campaign in Italy, too, only culminating in interest in his services mounting ever further.

During an exchange with the media earlier today, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Laurienté's future with the club was put to aforementioned Sassuolo chief Giovanni Carnevali.

More specifically, the Italian was drawn on the interest of Spurs.

Carnevali, though, was staunch in his stance that the club’s talented attacker will be going nowhere any time soon:

“We did not receive any formal proposal for Laurienté in the summer. In any case, we were not intentioned to discuss or entertain any proposal for him.”
