Man City handed late injury boost ahead of Forest clash

Premier League champions Manchester City have, on Friday, been afforded a boost on the personnel front.

Pep Guardiola’s troops, of course, are fresh off a sixth successive win to open the campaign, after putting Crvena zvezda to the sword by three goals to one in midweek.

On Saturday afternoon, though, the Sky Blues will turn their attentions back towards matters on the domestic front, when yet another three-point haul will be expected in a home meeting with Nottingham Forest.

This comes ahead of a hectic upcoming stretch of five fixtures in the space of just 15 days.

Safe to say, then, that boss Guardiola will be hopeful of having as many members of his star-studded squad as possible fit and ready to contribute.

In turn, it will come as a boost for not only City’s headmaster, but the club’s supporters, too, to hear of a key member of the club’s summer recruitment drive, on Friday, marking his return to training.

The player in question? Mateo Kovacic.

Midfielder Kovacic, who was brought in as a replacement-of-sorts for the outbound Ilkay Gundogan at The Etihad this summer, has missed the Citizens’ last couple of fixtures, owing to an unspecified muscular concern.

This afternoon, though, he was spotted back on the training pitch, sparking hope that the Croatian international could be involved against Forest on Saturday.
