Arsenal & Chelsea stars miss out: England’s latest squad confirmed

England’s squad for the latest set of international games was announced on Wednesday afternoon.

With the domestic season winding down, attention once again turns to the national sides.

There is no major tournament for European teams this summer, but there are a number of Euro 2024 qualifiers taking place.

England have been drawn in Group C alongside the current holders Italy, as well as Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta.

The Three Lions have had a solid start to their qualifying campaign, picking up wins over Italy and Ukraine during the March international break.

They will now face Malta on Friday the 16th of June and North Macedonia on Monday the 19th of June.

Both outings are games England should be winning with relative ease and thus it is a good time for Gareth Southgate to hand chances to some stars on the fringes of England’s squad.

The former Middlesbrough manager released his squad for the upcoming qualifiers on Wednesday, June 24.

It was a fairly standard selection, but there were some surprises as well. Arsenal defender Ben White has been pushed aside by Southgate recently and once again missed out this time around.

Another big name missing was Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling. There was also no room for Newcastle shot-stopper, Nick Pope.

Elsewhere, Lewis Dunk received his first England call-up for five years, whilst Conor Gallagher and Eberechi Eze were surprise inclusions.
