The champions are back in Ligue 1 action this weekend to kick off the 2023/24 season in France’s top flight with Lorient heading to the French capital where a weakened Paris Saint-Germain faces a late of questions.

PSG will be without Lionel Messi this season after his departure to Inter Miami, and although it looks as if Kylian Mbappe will stay, things remain incredibly toxic in that department.

The Ligue 1 champions are also reportedly trying to offload Neymar this transfer window, and the club are now facing some interesting questions regarding their upcoming title defence.

Lorient have also lost a few top names, most notably Terem Moffi to Nice, as he scored 12 goals in 16 games for the club in the league before leaving to join Nice on loan in January before a permanent move this summer.

Lorient finished 10th last season with 53 goals let in and 52 scored, while they also won just 15 games - this was 12 fewer than PSG’s tally.

In the end, PSG also won the league by just one point after losing on the final day of the season to Clermont Foot at home.
