Copa América 2024: Uruguay v Colombia – Preview, predictions, picks, offers and odds

Uruguay take on Colombia in the semi-finals of the Copa America

Match Preview

Uruguay’s resurgence under Marcelo Bielsa gathered momentum with their Copa America quarter-final win over Brazil.

They required a penalty shoot-out with goalkeeper Sergio Rochet the hero but did well to take it that far following a 74th-minute red card to Nahitan Nandez that meant they were holding on.

Bielsa will hope to get his side back to their free-flowing, attacking best when they meet Colombia in Charlotte. He may be without three key players though with Nandez suspended and Matias Vina and Ronald Araujo forced off through injuries against Brazil.

Colombia will hope to get another stand-out performance from playmaker James Rodriguez, who has arguably been the player of the tournament.

The former Real Madrid star scored one and assisted two in the 5-0 hammering of Panama in the last eight. He is also remembered for one of the great World Cup goals – against Uruguay, a stunning chest and volley at the Maracana in 2014.

“He’s a good player,” said coach Nestor Lorenzo. “He’s a player that is happy inside the field. The coach just sees how to put him [on the field so he can] enjoy.”

Lorenzo dismissed the notion Colombia were a one-man team, however, adding: “Football is an 11-player game and sometimes 10 have to play for that one player and they have to be willing to do that.

“But each of those 11 players have to play for their team-mates, for the other 10. And that is what this team is showing, great attitude and giving their all for their team-mates. That has been apparent from minute one.”
