World Cup 2022

Mexico betting tips, news and predictions

Mexico have reached the quarter-finals in two of their 16 World Cup outings (1970 and 1986), both times with the Americas side hosting the competition.

In 2018, they made it through a group stage that included Mexico and South Korea, before losing to Sweden, handing them a last-16 tie against Brazil. It proved a game too far for the Mexicans, who fell to a 2-0 defeat to the Selecao.

In a group with Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Poland, they should fancy themselves to progress to the knockout rounds but their key match will come in the opener against Poland, which could effectively be the decider for second place in Group C.

Mexico to win the World Cup - 150/1

Mexico are not expected to progress very far in the World Cup

A £10 bet at 250/1 would return £1500!

World Cup 2022

Mexico are another side who could cause an upset or two, but beyond progressing from the group stages, it’s unlikely that they can get much further.

Hirving Lozano to win the golden boot - 150/1

The Napoli man will be Mexico's most lethal threat in front of goal

fire

At 150/1, a £10 bet on Lozano would return £1500

World Cup 2022

Lozano is one of Mexico’s star players and will definitely be one to watch out for during the tournament, but goals aren’t his main currency and while he might be a huge part of their plans, he is unlikely to score enough goals to really challenge the big hitters.

Manager

Gerardo Martino

The former Barcelona manager is settled in his role at Mexico, having been there since the start of 2019. He has a favourable record - with a win percentage of 65% - but has faced heightened scrutiny around his position from the press, and it appears likely that the World Cup could mark the end of his tenure.

Key players

Hirving Lozano

The Napoli man will need to be at his best for Mexico to stand any chance of beating their previous best World Cup finish.

A tricky winger with a strong turn of pace and an acute knowledge of where the back of the net is, Lozano has racked up 15 goals and 11 assists in his 58 caps to date, and grabbed the goal that saw his side edge out Germany in the group stages four years ago.

Raul Jimenez

Jimenez will need to rediscover his form for club and country should Mexico have any hopes of making it past the last 16 stage this winter.

With 29 goals to his name thus far for the Americas side, the 29-year-old will be hoping that the defences of Saudi Arabia and Poland in Group C offer him enough chances to make the difference and get Mexico through to the knockout stages.

Fan expectation for Mexico in the World Cup

Traditionally for Mexico, making it to the “Quinto Partido” (fifth Game) is a national obsession after being knocked out of the round of 16 for seven consecutive World Cups.

That being said, the bar is a bit lower these days and just making it out of the group stage in 2022 would be seen as a minor success.

101′s Mexico World Cup Tip

101 Great Goals are backing Mexico to make it through to the round of 16 in the World Cup this year, but no further. It will be a good watch to see who progresses out of themselves and Poland, but we are backing Mexico.
