Switzerland vs Costa Rica betting tips: World Cup match preview & predictions

Switzerland vs Costa Rica 101 Great Goals prediction: Switzerland 1-0 Costa Rica

The Swiss have stood up to some tough tasks in Group E and dealt with them expertly, now they come up against a side that they are expected to beat.

Costa Rica have already been eliminated from this year’s World Cup but there is much more on the line for Switzerland who can qualify top of their group.

There is no bigger incentive than that to beat the Central American side.

Switzerland vs Costa Rica: Who will win?

As expected, Switzerland go into the game as heavy favourites with odds of 8/11.

Meanwhile, you can get Costa Rica to win the game at 11/2, though that might not be money well invested.

What looks by far the most attractive odds is for the Swiss to be leading 1-0 at half-time, and for the score to finish 1-0 at 9/1.

If you fancy the hero against Serbia in Xherdan Shaqiri to score first, you can get that at odds of 11/2.

Switzerland vs Costa Rica match preview

Vladimir Petković’s Switzerland have actually gone under the radar in this year’s World Cup.

They heroically defended against Brazil and took home a point following a 1-1 draw.

That was followed up by a big win over Serbia, who were tipped as the favourites prior to the game.

Xherdan Shaqiri finally got his tournament underway when he raced away from the Serbian defenders and slotted past the goalkeeper late on.

Having not lost a game in their group yet, they are in a very favourable position as they face already eliminated Costa Rica.

A win would take them top of the group but should Brazil win their game against Serbia, they would finish second.

Regardless, they know that they are one win away from securing their place in the next round of the competition.

Against a side who are already out and are yet to earn a point, you would expect this to only go one way.

Costa Rica: Playing for pride

It really hasn’t been a great tournament for Costa Rica.

They showed some promise at times but it doesn’t say great things about your team when your goalkeeper is coming in for so much praise.

Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas has stopped the scorelines from becoming embarrassing on a number of occasions.

A 1-0 loss to Serbia showed that they had some fight but eventually it wasn’t enough to earn themselves a point.

The same could be said against Brazil as they looked to be heading for one point against a very good side.

It wasn’t to be, as Philippe Coutinho scored late on to break Costa Rican hearts, before Neymar compounded their woes.

Now, they’re playing for pride but that likely won’t be enough to stop Switzerland.

Switzerland team news vs Costa Rica

As far as we know, there are no injury concerns from the Swiss.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka were at risk of suspension after their politically motivated celebrations but have only been handed fines.

They will likely field a similar one to that which beat Serbia in their last game.

Same goes for Costa Rica, who will have no fresh injury concerns.

Again, they are likely to field a similar side to that which faced Brazil.
