Portugal vs Spain betting tips: World Cup match preview & predictions

Portugal vs Spain 101 Great Goals prediction: Portugal 2-0 Spain

Having only sacked their manager 48 hours prior to kick-off, Spain are set to go into the game disjointed and Portugal will be expected to make the most of that.

Spain’s lacklustre performances against Switzerland and Tunisia did little to convince football fans that they are ready for the competition and that was before the recent managerial changes.

With that in mind, Portugal should be able to get their World Cup campaign off to a positive start.

Portugal vs Spain: Who will win?

Despite the recent coaching change, Bet365 have Spain down as 11/10 favourites to win the game while Portugal comes in at 16/5.

A 2-0 Portugal win currently sits at 20/1, a very attractive price.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo to get his tournament started the right way as first goalscorer can be backed at 9/2.

If you’re feeling more ambitious, Portugal are an incredible 22/1 to win the World Cup.

Portugal vs Spain World Cup match preview

Portugal are set to go up against a disjointed Spain side in their first Group B game, who are coming off the back of the surprise sacking of their manager Julen Lopetegui.

The Spanish boss was sacked on Wednesday, just 48 hours before his side were due to play the European champions.

Now, Fernando Hierro will lead Spain into the game which will be pivotal in how Group B finishes.

With such a short amount of time with a huge squad of players, it’s safe to say that this will be a huge test for Hierro to get them ready.

What will not help is coming up against a very strong Portugal side who come into the tournament at odds of 22/1 to go all the way.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s last chance to win a World Cup?

All eyes will also be on Cristiano Ronaldo, who is expected to start the game and has been extremely impressive since the start of 2018.

Though, Spain are not the only ones that have had some distractions in recent days.

That is because there has been a mass exodus at Sporting CP, with several of Portugal’s key players being involved in a huge row with the club.

With both sides set to go into the game disjointed, this could provide a very interesting backdrop to the game.

Portugal vs Spain team news

Going into the game, it’s positive news for both sides.

That is because they are both expected to have a fully fit squad going into the tournament.

The only piece of interesting news is that Fernando Hierro has a decision to make over Dani Carvajal.

That is because the Spanish defender has been absent in the recent friendlies through injury.

He has now returned to training but Alvaro Odriozola has played during his absence and could be given the nod.

Spain’s options are right back are illustrated by the fact Hector Bellerin and Sergi Roberto did not even make the squad.
