During this impressive string of results, the Lions of the Atlas have defeated the likes of Eygpt, Nigeria and Serbia – heading to Russia in fine form.

Iran have also demonstrated impressive form in the build-up to the tournament – putting together a strong qualifying campaign – to make for a fascinating contest between two nations separated by just four places in the FIFA rankings.

Morocco vs Iran match preview

Both Morocco and Iran face the daunting prospect of attempting to overthrow Spain and Portugal from qualifying spots in Group B.

Neither nation will particularly fancy their chances of reaching the last-16, however, with the Spanish national team in turmoil following the sacking of head coach Julen Lopetegui, they have both been handed a glimmer of hope.

Morocco arrive in Russia currently ranked 41st in the FIFA world rankings and will be making their fifth appearance on the biggest stage in football.

Iran will also be making their fifth World Cup appearances this summer, however, Team Melli sit ranked 37th in the world – four places ahead of Friday’s opposition.

Morocco made their way through a tough qualifying group containing Ivory Coast, Gabon and Mali to book their place in Russia.

Meanwhile, Carlos Queiroz’s Iran dominated proceedings in qualifying for the competition as they were the only Asian nation to go undefeated, beating South Korea to claim top spot in Group A.

Morocco team news vs Iran

Stiker Khalid Boutaib finished joint-second highest goalscorer in CAF qualification with four goals and will look to once again be his nation’s focal point at the World Cup.

Captain Medhi Benatia will also bring invaluable experience to Herve Renard’s side, along with Real Madrid youngster Achraf Hakimi – who had an impressive season with Los Blancos.

Iran team news vs Morocco

Mehdi Taremi was Iran’s standout performer in qualifying and is likely to be the player who will help guide them to any potential success this summer.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh will also be a name to look out for – the striker netted 21 league goals this season for AZ Alkmaar finishing as the Eredivisie’s top-scorer.
