Iceland vs Croatia 101 Great Goals prediction: Croatia 2-1 Iceland

Iceland have it all to do in their final game against Group D leaders Croatia if they are to continue in this year’s World Cup.

While Croatia have virtually confirmed top spot ahead of the game, they will still be out to make a statement in their final clash.

After dazzling performances against Argentina and Nigeria, expect the Croats to qualify with a 100% record.

Iceland vs Croatia: who will win?

Croatia go into the game as 5/4 favourites with bet365 but Iceland just trail with odds of 5/2.

A draw, which is a good result for Croatia, but not Iceland, is rated at 12/5.

Croatia to win the game and both teams to score also comes it at a decently priced 4/1.

Iceland vs Croatia match preview

It’s certainly been a very impressive group stage showing from Zlatko Dalić’s side at this year’s World Cup.

With players such as Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic and Ivan Perisic in your squad, you are expected to do well.

Their performances, however, have backed up their star-studded line up with some very nice football.

A routine win against Nigeria was expected as they cruised to a 2-0 victory.

Though, their utter domination over Lionel Messi’s Argentina made everyone stand up and take note.

While Argentina had already struggled against Iceland, Croatia played them off the park and both Luka Modric and Rakitic played a starring role.

The former has been a revelation at the World Cup so far, completing 100% of his take ons, tackles and aerial duels against the South American side, while also scoring.

The ice is melting

It’s been a very different tournament for Iceland who came into the competition with their usual fight and expectations to shock once again.

This came after they stunned England and impressed in the 2016 European Championships.

It was not to be a fairytale journey for them this time though, as they struggled to gain any momentum following their first-round result.

Heimir Hallgrímsson guided his men to a 1-1 draw with Argentina, which looked a great result at the time.

When faced with a supposedly weaker side in Nigeria, however, they were unable to show any of that resilience they had been known for previously.

Ahmed Musa scored a brace while the usually reliable Gylfi Sigurdsson skied his penalty.

Unfortunately for the ‘Ice Men’, that means that they face a sticky situation. To avoid going out they would need to beat Croatia and hope for Argentina to beat Nigeria.

They would likely also need to win by a better margin than Argentina, with Messi and co. sat on -3 goal difference and Iceland on -2.

They could just do it, but it’s going to have to be one hell of a performance to beat Croatia.

Iceland team news v Croatia

As far as we know, there have not been any injuries for Iceland and they could return with the same team as against Nigeria.

There will obviously be a lot more riding on this game and Heimir Hallgrímsson will hope his main men will step up this time around.

Croatia team news v Iceland

Zlatko Dalić has already confirmed that he will be looking to rest some players for the game after securing their progression.

That means that players such as Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic who have both impressed in the group stage could be rested.

The side have no fresh injury worries.
