Germany vs Sweden match preview

Group F continues on Saturday with Germany taking on Sweden at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi.

2014 winners Germany lost their opening match 1-0 to Mexico, leaving them in a potentially precarious position.

Andreas Granqvist scored from the penalty spot to give Sweden a 1-0 win over South Korea in their opening match.

South Korea face Mexico earlier in the day. Germany will be knocked out of the competition if they lose to Sweden and Mexico avoid defeat against South Korea.

A reminder that three of the last four World Cup champions before Germany failed to make it out of the group stages in the following tournament.

Another 4-4 draw between Germany and Sweden?!

The two sides have met 36 times in their history, with Germany winning 15 and Sweden winning 13. Germany won their most recent encounter 5-3 in 2013.

Prior to that, the sides played out an incredible 4-4 draw in 2012.

Germany were 4-0 up in that match before Sweden pulled off a remarkable comeback in the last half an hour.

Joachim Low could make a number of changes in response to his side’s opening-game defeat.

Marco Reus is in line to start against Sweden, coming in, in place of Mesut Ozil.

The Arsenal midfielder was fit to start in the defeat to Mexico but a less than convincing performance could see Reus handed a start.

In the middle of the park, Ilkay Gundogan is expected to start ahead of Sami Khedira., while Jonas Hector is set to get the nod at left-back at the expense of Marvin Plattenhardt.

Victor Lindelof missed Sweden’s opener through illness but the Manchester United defender is set to come in for Pontus Jansson at the back. In what is expected to be their only change to the starting line-up from their win over South Korea.
