France vs Australia betting tips: World Cup match preview & predictions

France vs Australia prediction: France 4-0 Australia

Despite performing well in their warm-up matches, Australia come into the match as massive underdogs.

France’s vast attacking options make them one of the leading contenders for this summer’s tournament. Didier Deschamps’ side are expected to win big on Saturday.

France vs Australia: Who will win?

Heavy favourites France can be backed for the win at 2/9.

A shock Australia victory comes in at 14/1.

Antoine Griezmann is 10/3 to be the first goalscorer.

Super-sub Olivier Giroud is 1/1 to score anytime during the match.

France vs Australia match preview

World Cup hopefuls France take on Australia in Saturday’s Group C opener at the Kazan Arena.

France will be making their 15th finals appearance, looking to replicate their 1998 World Cup triumph.

France won two and drew one of their three warm-up matches. Olivier Giroud and Nabil Fekir scored in France’s 2-0 win over Ireland before Les Bleus 3-1 win over Italy.

Didier Deschamps’ side required a late Kylian Mbappe goal to earn a 1-1 draw against the United States last weekend.

Australia’s difficult qualification campaign

Australia will be making their fourth consecutive World Cup finals appearance following a tough qualifying campaign.

After finishing behind Japan and Saudi Arabia in the Asian qualifiers, narrow playoff wins over Syria and Honduras saw the Socceroos earn a spot in Russia.

Bert van Marwijk’s side come into the tournament on the back of 4-0 and 2-1 wins over Czech Republic and Hungary respectively. Despite the positive result, the Socceroos’ 4-1 defeat to Norway in March will be cause for concern.

Tim Cahill top-scored for the Aussies in qualifying, netting 11 times. National team captain Mile Jedinak scored 10.

France and Australia have faced each other four times in the past, with France winning their most recent meeting 6-0 in 2013. Australia’s only victory over the French was a 1-0 win in the 2001 Confederations Cup.

Group C’s other fixture between Peru and Denmark also takes place on Saturday.

France team news vs Australia

Deschamps will be hoping to have Samuel Umtiti available after the Barcelona defender missed training on Monday with a knee problem.

Djibril Sidibe also has a knee concern, meaning Benjamin Pavard could start at right-back.

Although he is the most capped outfielder in the squad, and their leading goalscorer, Olivier Giroud may have to settle for a spot on the bench.

Kylian Mbappe is expected to recover from an ankle knock after a clash with Adil Rami forced him out of training earlier in the week.

Australia team news vs France

Brighton’s Matty Ryan is set to start in goal for Australia.

All-time leading goalscorer Tim Cahill is likely to start on the bench on Saturday. The 38-year-old is playing at his fourth World Cup finals.

All but three of Australia’s players play their football outside of the country.
