Kieran Trippier’s free-kick gave the Three Lions an early lead but they were ultimately unable to hang on to it.

Both sides can be proud of their efforts at this tournament and will want to finish on a high.

Despite not scoring in their semi-final, Beglium are still the leading scorers in the competition with 14 goals.

Following the semi-final comedown, Bronze matches are generally seen as anti-climatic affairs.

However, the 2018 World Cup matches with the most goals, most attempts and most bookings have all involved Belgium, so you can expect some more entertainment on Saturday.

And, with plenty of rotation, there should be a fair few players with something to prove at the World Cup.

Both sides will be in their away kits for the match.

Deja Vu

England have faced Belgium 22 times in their history, winning 15 and losing three.

Of course, Belgium have already beaten England in this tournament. Adnan Januzaj scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win which decided the outcome of Group G.

The match had a reserve-match feel to it, with neither side desperate to win and both sides featuring squad players.

This is more or less what is expected on Saturday with both Roberto Martinez and Gareth Southgate ringing the changes.

The race for the Golden Boot

As they did in their final group game in Kaliningrad two weeks ago, both managers may be tempted to rotate their starting line-ups and give fringe players another opportunity to feature in World Cup match.

With that said, there’s a not-so-small matter of the World Cup Golden Boot to be settled. England’s Harry Kane remains the leading scorer at the competition with six goals (albeit three of those were from the penalty spot).

Romelu Lukaku, meanwhile, is also in with a shout with four goals to his name. So you can bet your bottom dollar that both those two players will start on Saturday.

Belgium team news vs England

Having been spared extra-time in their semi-final, the Belgium players will feel a lot fresher than their opponents.

This means that the Red Devils are not expected to make too many alterations to their starting line-up.

Thomas Meunier is expected to return to the starting eleven after missing out against France due to suspension.

England team news vs Belgium

Jordan Henderson, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker and are all doubts, although the latter has the best chance of the three to start on Saturday.

Fringe players such as Danny Welbeck, Fabien Delph and Trent Alexander-Arnold will be gunning for minutes.

Jordan Pickford is expected to start in goal, but Gareth Southgate must surely be tempted to give Jack Butland some game time.
