Australia vs Peru match preview

Australia and Peru have never faced each other in international football before.

Australia face Peru in at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi on Tuesday in their final Group C match.

Peru suffered a second consecutive 1-0 defeat last week, losing to Group C leaders France.

Australia picked up their first point of the tournament against Denmark.

For the second match running, captain Mile Jedinak scored from the penalty spot, this time to cancel out Christian Eriksen’s early opener.

Australia’s last chance saloon

Peru will be playing for pride, having already been eliminated from the tournament.

Australia, meanwhile, still have an outside chance of qualifying for the last 16.

The Socceroos will have to beat Peru and hope France win their match against Denmark. Should that happen, goal difference will separate the Danes and Australia.

Should Australia progress, they will face the winners of Group A, either Croatia or Nigeria.

Australia coach Bert van Marwijk is unlikely to make too many changes for their final group match.

Daniel Arzani, the youngest player at the World Cup, impressed off the bench against Denmark and there are calls for the 19-year-old to start.
