Match preview for USA v Switzerland
Days before the CONCACAF Gold Cup kicks off, the United States will take on Switzerland in a final warm-up friendly in Nashville on Tuesday.
The Americans are reeling from a disappointing 2-1 loss to Turkey over the weekend, despite taking an early lead.
Switzerland, in contrast, head into this match riding a wave of confidence after dispatching Mexico 4-2 last week.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side got off to a flying start against the Turks, scoring just 59 seconds into the game.
However, things quickly fell apart as they conceded twice within 22 minutes, their quickest two-goal concession since a 2018 friendly against England.
The USA have now lost five straight matches to European nations and have not defeated a UEFA team since edging Bosnia and Herzegovina in December 2021.
Pochettino, now under pressure, is the first USMNT manager since Jurgen Klinsmann in 2015 to suffer three consecutive defeats.
Switzerland, meanwhile, are showing strong form under Murat Yakin. They’ve now netted seven goals across their last two fixtures and are unbeaten in six matches.
A win in Nashville would give them three consecutive victories for the first time since a run that spanned March to June in 2023.
Historically, the Swiss have never lost on American soil, including a 1-1 draw in their 1994 World Cup meeting at the Pontiac Silverdome.
