The 15-time All-Star will consult on the club's "potential plans" to expand into basketball.

Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), the organization that serves as the majority owner of the Ligue 1 soccer club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), announced earlier today that it had signed an investment and strategic partnership deal with the Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant that will see the two-time NBA Champion acquire a minority ownership stake in the team. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed at this time.

“QSI is pleased to welcome Kevin Durant as a direct shareholder in Paris Saint-Germain and strategic partner of our Group. We continually seek to elevate the Club and our broader portfolio through high-impact partnerships that bring strategic value, innovation, and global perspective,” said Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the chairman of Qatar Sports Investments, in a statement. “Together with Kevin, we look forward to developing ambitious initiatives that will drive the continued global growth of Paris Saint-Germain and QSI.”

This deal will see QSI and Boardroom, the media company founded by Durant and his agent (Rich Kleiman) in 2019, work together on “commercial, investment, and content initiatives.” Additionally, Durant will help co-develop merchandise, create original media content, advise PSG on international marketing techniques, and even consult the team on its multi-sport strategy, which includes “potential plans in basketball.”

“It is an honor to partner with QSI and be a shareholder in Paris Saint-Germain – a Club and a city that is so close to my heart,” Durant said. “This club has big plans ahead, and I can’t wait to be a part of the next phase of growth and to explore new investment opportunities with QSI.”

In August of 2024, Kevin Durant formed a partnership with PSG through Arctos Partners, a minority stakeholder in the team. Earlier this week, QSI and Boardroom signed an agreement that would allow Durant to become a direct minority owner of the club.

This is not the first time that Kevin Durant has ventured into the world of soccer. In 2020, KD purchased a 5% stake in the Philadelphia Union Major League Soccer team.

“I’ve been a fan of the sport, and then seeing how fast the popularity of the league was growing, seeing more fans pop up in different cities around the country, and then seeing how these franchises impact the city’s businesses and people individually was very intriguing,” Durant told ESPN in 2020 during an exclusive interview.

Entering his 18th season in the NBA, Kevin Durant is one of the most decorated basketball players of all time. Not only is he a former MVP and a 15-time All-Star, but he also became the first man ever to win four Olympic Gold Medals in basketball when the U.S. beat France 98-87 in the 2024 Summer Olympics.
