Reigning US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau has said he hopes his game will not be too “reserved” despite the demands of the 2025 edition being held at Oakmont.
Title rival Rory McIlroy said the course “felt impossible” when he played there on June 2, calling the Pennsylvania settng a “big brute of a golf course”.
“Can I be fearless on this course?” asked DeChambeau. “Anybody really can. Are there times to be reserved? You can’t just blast it on every single hole… you have to be a fraction more strategic. I’m going to be as fearless as I can possibly be.”
“This is probably the hardest golf course we’ll play, ever” ‼️

2025 US Open: LIV Golf ‘viable’, says DeChambeau
DeChambeau’s triumph at Pinehurst Resort makes him the most recent player to win a major of the 14 taking part in this year’s US Open who are on the LIV Golf tour.
The current world number 10 joined the Saudi-funded tour for a reported guarantee of $100 million in 2022 and reiterated his faith in its future.
“Next year is when it ends,” he said of his deal. “We’re looking to negotiate at the end of this year and I’m very excited. I know my worth, I know what LIV brings to the table.
“I believe we’ll come to some sort of resolution on that and I’m very excited for the future. LIV’s not going anywhere. Whether everybody believes in it or not, I think it’s a viable commercial option.
“We’re starting to grow and move in the right direction… I believe there is a sustainable option out there – how it all works with the game of golf, who knows?”
Bryson DeChambeau YouTube
More than two million people have subscribed to DeChambeau’s YouTube channel, which the 31-year-old uses to share insights and play with fellow golfers, celebrities and high-profile figures such as US president Donald Trump.
When he was asked whether any of his tour peers had asked him for his advice on social media success, DeChambeau named six-time major winner Phil Mickelson, who is 23 years his senior, as “one of the only ones to ask me about that”.
“He’s been extremely interested,” said DeChambeau. “He sees that as a viable option for commercialization, inspiration, education, entertainment. He’s been one who’s talked to me a lot about that and it’s been fun to help a little bit.”
The American calls viral content creators “awesome to play with” and providers of “great perspective”. “It helps me become more comfortable in my own skin because I realize what I’m doing it for.
“You see their liveliness and you think ‘I can use a little bit of that’. I’m learning how to become a little bit more entertaining and it’s great to feed off that.”
When is the 2025 US Open golf?
The 2025 US Open will run from Thursday, June 12 until Sunday, June 15, and DeChambeau says he will be partly inspired by his YouTube channel.
“The only time I have low moments – issues getting motivated, I guess you could say – is when I feel like there’s no place to go with equipment or my game, thoughts or theories,” he acknowledged.
“I somehow always seem to give myself a little hope. Another part is doing it for the fans, patrons and people viewing my stuff on YouTube. That’s really what gets me up in the morning and gives me a lot of passion for this game.”
