San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has signed a massive five-year, $265 million extension that includes $181 million in guaranteed money.
The deal, reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, now places Purdy among the top earners at his position in the NFL, with an annual average salary of $53 million.
Drafted last in 2022 and earning the title “Mr Irrelevant” – Purdy has since become central to the 49ers’ success.
He led San Francisco to a Super Bowl appearance just a year after being drafted and has proven to be far more than a late-round gamble.
The extension keeps Purdy in the Bay Area until the end of the 2029 season, a clear statement from the team that they see the 25-year-old as their long-term answer at quarterback.
In 2024, he threw for 3,851 yards with 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

His rookie contract totalled just $3.737 million over four years, so he has had a massive bump for the next stage of his career.
Purdy’s climb from the last pick in the draft to becoming one of the NFL’s top-paid quarterbacks is a story of perseverance and performance.
During the 2023 season, he racked up 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl selection and steering the 49ers within reach of a championship.
The move also strengthens the relationship between Purdy and head coach Kyle Shanahan. With the team projected to carry over $64 million in cap space into 2025, locking in their quarterback now was both a strategic and financial play as the 49ers look to remain contenders in the coming seasons.
