NFL: Former Four-Time MVP Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Rules Out Playing For The Saints

"I'm too old, I don't want to live in Louisiana," he said.

Former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently said that he would not be interested in playing for the New Orleans Saints during a Q&A session of a May 23rd live recording of the YNK podcast in Austin, Texas. The team currently has four quarterbacks on its roster after Derek Carr announced his retirement from the NFL on May 10th.

When asked by a fan if he would consider signing with the New Orleans Saints, Rodgers definitively answered “no.”

“That’s the answer. It’s no,” he said. “I’ve played there a couple times, but no. The answer’s no. I’m too old. I don’t want to live in Louisiana.”

The New Orleans Saints are holding a quarterback competition between second-round pick Tyler Shough, Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler, and undrafted free agent Hunter Dekkers. Haener suffered an oblique strain recently that is expected to sideline him for multiple weeks but will have him ready to return for the start of training camp in late July, according to sources who spoke to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

That wasn’t the only franchise Rodgers shut down. He was also asked if he would ever consider playing for the Chicago Bears. Though he said that he wouldn’t play for Chicago, Rodgers hinted at the idea of playing for one of the Bears’ home opponents.

“I believe there’s a team that might play in Chicago this year on a road trip,” he explained. “I don’t know. Not sure. I gotta check it out.”

Besides NFC North opponents, there are five other teams scheduled to play in Chicago this season: the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, and Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s worth noting, the Giants and Browns both used premium picks to take quarterbacks during the 2025 NFL Draft.

This indirect response led to Rodgers being asked if he would sign with the Steelers this off-season. He once again failed to provide a direct answer, responding with an elongated “eh” before saying, “You never know.”

As of this writing, the Steelers have three quarterbacks on their roster: Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and 2025 sixth-round draft pick Will Howard, who recently led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a National Championship victory in the 2025 College Football Playoffs.

Pittsburgh’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are scheduled to begin on May 27th and run through June 5th. After that, a mandatory minicamp will be held on June 10th, 11th, and 12th.
