The Dallas Cowboys did not address the wide receiver position in the NFL Draft, but they are set to give quarterback Dak Prescott some much-needed help.
According to multiple reports, the Cowboys are finalizing a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for receiver George Pickens.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the trade will see the Steelers receive a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick in exchange for Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
Pickens was selected in the second round of the 2022 draft by the Steelers and has been consistently productive for Pittsburgh, racking up 2,841 receiving yards and 12 touchdown receptions. He also has one touchdown rush in his career.
The former Georgia wideout led the league in yards per reception (18.1) in 2023, when posted a career-high 1,140 receiving yards. Last season, Pickens had 900 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

But Pickens is entering the final year of his rookie contract. With the Steelers having traded for DK Metcalf this offseason and signed the former Seattle Seahawks star to a five-year, $150 million extension, the prospect of them giving Pickens a long-term deal was an unlikely one.
For Dallas, the acquisition of Pickens takes some of the pressure off their top receiver CeeDee Lamb, providing Prescott with a viable number two who can divert attention away from the 2020 first-round pick, who has recorded at least 1,100 yards receiving in four of his five seasons in the NFL.
The Cowboys are starting a new era under head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who was promoted from the role of offensive coordinator following Dallas’ decision to part with Mike McCarthy.
Last season, the Cowboys finished 21st in points on offense, having finished first in two of the previous three campaigns (they were fourth in 2022). Dallas also dropped from fifth in yards in 2023 to 17th in 2024, as the Cowboys posted an underwhelming 7-10 record that saw Prescott’s season ended early by a hamstring injury that required surgery.
