Wijnaldum offered 3-year Bayern contract, Klopp hints at Keita as replacement?

Wijnaldum offered Bayern Munich deal

Gini Wijnaldum’s future has been the subject of debate for a significant period of time now.

However, it seems that the Dutchman is set for the Liverpool exit door this summer, and possibly even a step up in his career.

‘Bayern Munich in touch with Georginio Wijnaldum. The player was offered a 3-year contract. Talks on annual pay are ongoing,’ wrote transfer journalist Ekrem Konur.

He would effectively fill the role left by Thiago Alcantara, who ironically left for Liverpool, last summer. The central midfielder would be in good stead to pick up more trophies, after bagging the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool.

Wijnaldum’s agent recently spoke to the German media about his client’s future, and effectively invited the prospect of a move to Bavaria.

“Wijnaldum is a free transfer and keeps all options open,” Humphry Nijman explained.

“FC Bayern is a great club. If you are interested in him, please feel free to speak to us.”

Klopp points to Keita stay

A player who many might have been expected to be the natural replacement for Wijnaldum is Naby Keita.

The Guinean midfielder arrived at the club from RB Leipzig amid weighty expectations, but injuries and form have seen him fail to establish himself as a regular in Liverpool’s side.

Jurgen Klopp, however, has assured that he sees the former Salzburg player remaining at the club long-term.

“Naby trains really well in the moment, I have to say,” Klopp explained.

“He trains really well, like a lot of other players, and looks really good in training. But this year now we need stability.

“We will make changes from time to time definitely, but it’s not like we pick now seven, eight, nine players to change and say, ‘Maybe we can win it like this.’

“The long-term future of Naby Keita, from my point of view, is here, yes.”

Keita may hope to fill the void left by Wijnaldum, should he leave, but his presence does not rule out the possibility of Liverpool entering the market in the summer.
