Why Sergio Ramos is suddenly being linked with a move to PSG

Why Sergio Ramos is suddenly being linked with a move to PSG

Ramos contract talks stall

Sergio Ramos faces the prospect of leaving Real Madrid this summer.

With his contract set to expire, no new agreement has yet been found.

Zinedine Zidane has gone on record to state that he wants Ramos to remain at the club beyond the current season.

“He won’t play tomorrow and that’s a shame, but I hope he stays here. You know that,” said the French coach.

However, the main sticking point appears to be the length of contract on offer.

Madrid have made a proposal to the Spaniard, but Ramos wants a two-year deal, with Los Blancos only willing to provide a one-year extension.

With David Alaba set to arrive from Bayern Munich this summer, to add to Eder Militao and Nacho Fernandez, there is significant cover.

However, the joint departure of Ramos, and Raphael Varane, who is also linked with a move away, could see Madrid forced into the market.

Reason behind sudden PSG link

PSG are not averse to jumping on free transfer deals for some of Europe’s most decorated and highly-rated players, moving towards the end of their respective careers.

Just recently, Gianluigi Buffon left Turin to spend time in the French capital.

Now, with Ramos’ future uncertain, could the Spaniard make the trip northeast?

The latest furore surrounding a possible move to Paris stems from Ramos’ social media activity.

It has been noticed that the stopper, out of the blue, recently followed a whole host of PSG players on Instagram, including:

Neymar, Thilo Kehrer, Rafinha, Mauro Icardi, Ander Herrera, Presnel Kimpembe and former teammate Keylor Navas.

As is the case with any social media activity, it should of course be taken with a large pinch of salt. However, it is not an untrodden path for star players.

Ramos’ ex-Real teammates Angel Di Maria and Keylor Navas both reside in Paris. Could he yet join them?
