United change tactic

Manchester United made moves to switch their focus when it comes to the transfer window. Despite continuing to add proven talent in the summer with the additions of Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles, following on from the January acquisition of Bruno Fernandes, United now wish to pursue plenty of younger starlets.

The process has already begun with Facundo Pellistri joining at the end of the previous window and a deal for Atalanta’s Amad Diallo agreed for him arrive this January also.

MEN reported that United decided to pursue these targets and will continue to do so in January after a change in age profile focus. The northwest club had looked to sign players from the ages of 23 to 28, players which would have a more immediate impact as the club look to re-establish themselves as title challengers.

But now United want to pursue younger players with an incentive of building a strong core of quality from their academy and from abroad.

Pellistri has been included in Manchester United’s squad in the Champions League on a couple of occasions although has not yet made a senior appearance.

“We felt Facundo would benefit,” Solskjaer explained. “He started training with the first-team – he did well but we couldn’t give him game-time so we thought we’d give him a run of games in the 23s and he’s benefited from that. His confidence has been given a boost. He’s shown in all the games that he can impact the game.”

Caicedo and Diallo

It appears that in addition to Pellistri and Diallo, United want to add another young wonderkid to their setup. The reported name is that of Moises Caicedo. The Ecuadorian midfielder plays for Independiente del Valle in his homeland.

Caicedo has garnered a lot of attention since breaking into the senior international team before his 20th birthday. Caicedo already has 4 caps and is likely to quickly gain more.

“My challenge is one day to be in the elite of world football. I have proposed this to myself, my dream is to play in the big leagues,” Caicedo said.

“The Premier League, Manchester United are my favourite club. I really like the game of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, I learn a lot from them every time I see them. I always try to do what they do, that’s why they are there.”

Considering the teenager’s words it seems absolutely no surprise then that United are pursuing the youngster and will hope to get a deal done as soon as possible.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken highly of incoming Atalanta midfielder Amad Diallo and has said he could even see senior football in the near future.

“With Amad, hopefully we can get him in and we’ll see how the squad looks and how he looks and how he settles as soon as possible. They’re both talented players that we believe will have a long career here. It’s important we find the right time,” he said.

With this focus on youth and Solskjaer speaking so highly of it, United may soon have a very youthful look to its line-up. Even more so than it currently has.
