Liverpool were once again humbled in the Premier League on Saturday, with the sobering reality this time around a 2-0 loss against Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside derby – arguably the lowest point Liverpool have experienced in a very long time.

It was expected that emotions would be running high on the touchline ahead of the clash, and they came close to boiling over when Jurgen Klopp and Duncan Ferguson appeared to clash. Julien Laurens revealed on social media what happened.

“Why are you laughing?” shouted Klopp towards a smiling Duncan Ferguson.

“We are allowed to talk or is it just you Jurgen?” said Seamus Coleman, the Everton full-back.

Their latest defeat leaves Liverpool level with Everton on 40 points in the English top-flight, but the Toffees could climb above the Reds with a victory in their game in hand.

Ancelotti emotional

Carlo Ancelotti was visibly emotional after the game whilst giving his interviews to the press, and spoke of how important it was that Everton got the victory at Anfield, for the first time in over 20 years in the Premier League.

“We are really happy, really pleased. After a long time Everton are able to win at Anfield, it is a good gift for our supporters,” he said.

“The performance was good. We were focused, worked hard and when we had the opportunities we were clinical. We have three points.”

“The derby is a special game as we said before but we have to catch three points at home too. It [our form] is not good enough at home.”

Everton’s European ambitions were given a further boost on Saturday when Chelsea drew 1-1 away at Southampton. Ancelotti’s men now sit just 3 points adrift of the Blues, with a game in hand.
