Brighton announce Mwepu

Brighton today announced the signing of Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Enock Mwepu on a permanent deal.

Graham Potter spoke of his versatility but confirmed he’s seen mainly as a central midfielder.

“We’re delighted to be able to welcome Enock to the club and are looking forward to working with him,” he said.

“He has a great deal of experience for somebody of his age, including Champions League and international football.

“He’s primarily a central midfielder, although he is capable of playing in numerous positions, is open-minded, adaptable and very keen to learn and develop.

“He will add competition to our existing options in that area of the squad going into the new season.”

The Zambian international has already tweeted in anticipation of meeting the fans ahead of the new season.

What this means for Bissouma?

Naturally, this has sparked questions surrounding Yves Bissouma. The Malian midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Amex.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with a move for Bissouma who is seen as a clear option for both side’s respective midfields.

The links between Arsenal and the Malian have grown quiet of late since reported that the 24-year-old had instructed his agent that he wants to join Arsenal.

Bissouma has instructed his agent Michael N’Cho that he wants to join the Gunners, but as of today no formal offer or contact has been made with Brighton.

Meanwhile the Liverpool Echo reported last week that Liverpool are ‘monitoring’ the player.

They are, though, keeping tabs on a number of players including Yves Bissouma, the 24-year-old Mali international who has impressed for Brighton and Hove Albion.

There has been quite the clamour for Bissouma to join Arsenal by much of the fan base but with Granit Xhaka still at the club, they are looking to bring in Belgian midfielder Sambi Lokonga at present.

Should they manage to move on Xhaka, they could then make a decision to push for a deal for the Malian but presently there has been no official contact on that line.

Mwepu could also play with Bissouma in the heart of Brighton’s midfield, meaning that ultimately his signing could hint at a possible departure for the Malian, but it is no guarantee.
