West Ham bid for Sevilla striker En-Nesyri as window’s deadline draws nearer

West Ham's pursuit of a striker could be coming to an end after the club submitted a £20 million-plus bid for Sevilla's Youssef En-Nesyri.

Striker pursuit

West Ham could be coming closer to ending their search for a striker this window. The Hammers sold Sebastian Haller to Ajax this January after the Ivorian forward failed to ultimately justify his £45 million purchase.

David Moyes and his side have been looking for a forward since the departure of their record signing. They are currently having an excellent season and sit in the top half, however have the least amount of goals of any Premier League side in the top portion of the table. There is a huge reliance on Michail Antonio and the goals he provides for them to continue their push for a solid finish this season.

The English forward has faced fitness problems and this is a worry should the former Nottingham Forest player suffer any level of injury.

Moyes has had 18-year-old forward Mipo Odubeko on the bench and the Ireland youth international has scored twice in the EFL Trophy this season. However, he has not been trusted to even come off the bench as of yet. West Had had been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah but that deal was blocked by the Gunners’ coach Mikel Arteta.

En-Nesyri bid submitted

However, it now seems as though West Ham have settled on a target in which they can pursue. The Moroccan forward Youssef En-Nesyri has become the main man for the Hammers according to The Athletic and the club has lodged an offer for the striker.

The report continues to detail that the bid is of around £22.5 million with £4.5 million in add-ons. This is just £4.5 million over the initial fee (not including additions) which Sevilla paid to Leganes to acquire the forward’s services.

So far in the Champions League and La Liga En-Nesyri has scored a total of 12 goals in 23 appearances. The four goals in the Champions League helped his side qualify for the knockout stages along with Premier League club Chelsea. This composure and experience at the very highest level of European football will appeal to the Hammers.

Sevilla however will not want to lose one of their key assets with the aforementioned knockout stages of the European competition to come especially considering they have a tough tie against Borussia Dortmund. Julen Lopetegui and his side sit just two points behind 4th placed Villarreal in the league and will consider the Moroccan an integral part of their plans to achieve their targets.
