Origi misses Arsenal clash

Liverpool and Arsenal are currently locking horns on a night at Anfield as Mikel Arteta’s Gunners made the trip to Merseyside to clash with Jürgen Klopp’s Reds – who hold a 1-0 lead at the break at the time of writing thanks to Sadio Mané – but were without the services of Belgian international Divock Origi.

It was revealed that the versatile forward would miss proceedings this evening, one with top four on the line, after the club confirmed their matchday XI on their official website with Origi labelled as absent through illness.

Despite zero expectations that the Belgian would be anywhere near the selected XI for the night, Liverpool did lack any considerable depth in attacking talent off the bench and could only count on Takumi Minamino as the lone first-team attacking option that was available.

It is unclear how long Origi is set to miss due to his illness, with no confirmation of what has held him back but the speculation could begin to stir after Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne returned from international duty and tested positive for Covid-19.

Belgian urged to consider career path amidst stagnation

The very fact that Divock Origi was hardly expected to feature in any prominent role tonight for Liverpool is precisely the reason why he has received criticism from home regarding his career path.

Former Belgian U19 manager Gert Verheyen lamented a career that had such potential after personally managing Origi during his rise at the beginning of his career.

In a recent interview with Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad, Verheyen asked the question if Origi has ever pushed himself to want more;

We just don’t know how good he is today. In his youth, Divock was a class act. But by staying with Liverpool and playing little, he hasn’t developed further.

Can you blame him [for staying at Anfield]? That’s his choice. Liverpool must be a fantastic club to play for. But at some point you want to play, don’t you?

I think it would be a shame for Origi’s talent. The only thing I never felt about Divock was the urge – the urge to score, a striker who says ‘I scored two, now I want three.

Not that he didn’t do his best. We played with the U19s in a dilapidated stadium in Serbia where you had to wash yourself in a tub of water, so to speak. Divock tried his best. But scoring more, wanting more? That he didn’t

Can he extend that to his career choices?”

What is next for Divock Origi? No one knows, perhaps not even himself.
