The latest on Raúl Jiménez’s chances of starting vs West Ham after late Wolves return

The latest on Raúl Jiménez’s chances of starting vs West Ham after late Wolves return

Jiménez will not be rushed for the weekend

Bruno Lage is amidst his final preparations before Wolves host West Ham tomorrow at Molineux after the international break, but the Portuguese has taken the cautious route regarding key striker Raúl Jiménez.

The Mexican international won his 87th and 88th caps for El Tri over the break during a frustrating CONCACAF World Cup qualifying program that saw them dropped by bitter rivals the United States (2-0) and unexpected group leaders Canada (2-1).

It was his 90-minutes against Canada that saw Jiménez subsequently return to Wolves on Thursday afternoon for training, which has led Lage to make no guarantees on his availability tomorrow, stating that the best decision will be taken regarding his potential selection.

Wolves in good hands under Lage

It may still be just a shade under one-third of the season played in the 2021-22 Premier League campaign, but Wolves are in good hands under Bruno Lage after the Portuguese replaced his countryman Nuno Espírito Santo in the summer.

And Lage is certainly having the last laugh, too, with NES now unemployed after a woeful period at Tottenham while Wolves have clawed their way up to eighth in the table and ahead of Spurs on goal difference.

Their current position is in stark contrast to how last season ended, when the club dropped down to 13th following consecutive 7th-place finishes after achieving promotion under Espírito Santo.

Lage could be set to add quality to Wolves in January as well, after links with interest in Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek have recently surfaced, amid the Dutchman’s status at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

With plenty of time left in the season, many can still be hopeful that Wolves will be back on track as a perennial top-half club in the Premier League.
