Ceferin offered change
The president of UEFA Aleksander Ceferin addressed the ‘Big 6’ English clubs on Tuesday morning, offering the chance for them to ‘change’ their ‘minds’ and back out of the plans for a Super League.
This was ultimately what sparked the total collapse of the proposed project.
âAt this point I would like to address the owners of some English clubs,â Ceferin said at the UEFA congress meeting.
âGentlemen, you made a huge mistake. Some will say it is greed, others disdain, arrogance, flippancy or complete ignorance of Englandâs football culture.
âBut actually it doesnât matter. What matters is there is still time to change your mind. Everyone makes mistakes. English fans deserve to have you correct your mistake. They deserve respect.
âSo, to the English clubs mainly, come to your senses – not out of love for football, because I imagine some of you donât have much of that – but out of respect for those who bleed themselves dry so that they can go to the stadium to support their team and want the dream to be kept alive.
âFor those, you change your mind. Do it out of respect for the English people, for the home of football.â

UEFA could still punish
Despite the obedience of the clubs to follow Ceferin’s offer, there are surfacing reports that the association could still punish the clubs.
RMC Sports’ Mohamed Bouhafsi confirmed that a UEFA vice president had said, “We will have to discuss possible additional consequences, the first consequence is that they will live with shame.”

Whilst the clubs themselves were the ones involved, fans may feel aggrieved that they could yet be punished further than the embarrassment of their club’s decisions.
