Tottenham suffer double injury setback & Newcastle’s defensive crisis

Tottenham and Newcastle suffer injury blows

Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane suffered injuries during their game with Southampton, while Newcastle now have a defensive crisis on their hands.

Spurs were beaten by Southampton after a Danny Ings goal secured all three points for the Saints.

Meanwhile, Newcastle suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester City.

Ayoze Perez, Hamza Choudhury and James Maddison were on the scoresheet for the Foxes.

To make things worse for both sides, they suffered big injury blows.

Ndombele & Kane suffer injury setbacks

It’s been a difficult start to life in the Premier League for Tanguy Ndombele.

The Frenchman has looked brilliant when he’s actually played, though that hasn’t been a regular occurrence.

He’d only played 777 minutes for Tottenham before the clash with Southampton, and his game was cut short again on Wednesday.

Ndombele clashed knees with Moussa Djenepo fairly early on in the game and eventually hobbled off after just 25 minutes.

It was not clear whether his injury was a result of the clash with Djenepo, or a reoccurrence of an old problem.

Harry Kane was then also forced off late in the game.

Having stretched for the ball after a cross into the box, Kane grimaced while holding his hamstring, and was immediately substituted.

Newcastle’s defensive crisis

Newcastle’s clash against Leicester was possibly their worst game of the season.

Not only did they lose the game 3-0, they suffered a boatload of injuries and had to finish the game with ten men.

Firstly, Jetro Willems suffered an injury and had to be replaced by DeAndre Yedlin.

Just a minute later, Javier Manquillo had to be substituted for Emil Krafth after going down injured.

Jonjo Shelvey then had to be replaced at half time due to suspected injury, with Sean Longstaff coming on.

To compound Newcastle’s woes, Fabian Schär then went down injured.

While he attempted to carry on, he would eventually be forced off and, having made all their subs, Newcastle were down to 10 men.

It was simply not Newcastle’s day.
